Mary Griffith (Sigourney Weaver) is a devout Christian who raises her children with the conservative teachings of the Presbyterian Church in the late 1970s and early 1980s Walnut Creek, California. Her son Bobby (Ryan Kelley) confides to his older brother that he may be gay. Life changes for the entire family after Mary learns about his secret. Bobby's father and siblings slowly come to terms with his homosexuality, but Mary believes that God can cure him. She takes him to a psychiatrist and persuades Bobby to pray harder and seek solace in Church activities in hopes of changing him. Desperate for his mother's approval, Bobby does what is asked of him, but through it all, the Church's disapproval of homosexuality and his mother's attempts to suppress his growing behaviors in public causes him to grow increasingly withdrawn and depressed.
Stricken with guilt, Bobby moves to Portland, hoping that some day, his mother will accept him. He gives up on his hopes of defeating homosexuality. He finds a boyfriend, David (Scott Bailey), at a gay bar. However, Mary makes it clear that she still does not want her son to continue as he is. Despite meeting David's parents, who assure them that things will improve, Bobby continues thinking of his mother's words, and also sees David with another man. Finally, Bobby's subsequent depression and self-loathing intensifies as he blames himself for not being the "perfect" son, and one night, he free falls off a freeway bridge into the path of an oncoming eighteen-wheeler truck, which kills him instantly. The family receives the horrible news the following day, and is devastated.
Faced with their tragedy, Mary begins to question herself and her Church's interpretation of the Scripture. Through her long and emotional journey, Mary slowly reaches out to the gay community and discovers unexpected support from a very unlikely source. She becomes acquainted with a local reverend of the Metropolitan Community Church, who convinces her to attend a meeting of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). It is there that she realizes that she knew Bobby was different from conception and that his true value was in his heart.

She becomes an advocate for gay rights and eventually gives a speech in a Walnut Creek city council meeting in support of a local "gay day". She urges people to think before they say, voice, or support homophobia because "a child is listening". The measure is rejected, but she and her family travel to San Francisco with fellow PFLAG members and walk in a gay pride parade, during which she sees another young man just like Bobby observing the parade. She walks over and hugs him, finally coming to terms with her son's death and vowing to work hard for the rights of gays and lesbians.

       PRAYERS FOR BOBBY is a 2009 made for TV movie about a right-wing religious mother who causes her son to commit suicide as an adult because of her lack of love and acceptance for what her son has become... a homosexual. So she turns to the gay community for comfort after her son's suicide, now supportive of gay rights.

It's a blatant attack against Biblical Christianity, clearly intended to recruit America's churches to support the wicked sodomite movement. Homosexuality must be publicly exposed!

I sympathize with the Griffith family in the loss of their loved one, for that is truly tragic. The intent of my article is not to condemn the Griffith family, nor Sigourney Weaver who starred as Mary Griffith in the movie, nor anyone else. We are all guilty sinners in God's eyes (James 2:10). I would never condemn anyone for being a sinner, for the Bible condemns all of us as deserving of Hell for our sins (Romans 3:19-23; 6:23; 2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:11-15).

Albeit, there is an evil agenda behind the movie, much more than the simple message that we should never abandon a loved one (which is certainly true). A family's love for each other should be unconditional, just as God's love. But that doesn't mean allowing sinful compromise, nor being supportive of one's homosexuality. A Christian parent of a gay son or daughter needs to make clear that their love for that child is unconditional; but at the same time it must be firmly stated that homosexuality will not be tolerated in your presence, nor in your home, nor are you in any way supportive of such wickedness. It is sinful for any parent to support gay rights.

Homosexuality is immoral. It is sin in God's eyes. The Bible makes clear that we are to LOVE GOD more than our mother, father, son, daughter, wife, husband, or other loved ones. That means obeying God above all else. Luke 14:26, “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.” God is not telling us to hate anyone. It simply means that our love for God should be so much greater, that everything else in comparison is as hatred.

Sigourney Weaver openly praises her role in the movie as Mary, showing her total agreement with the sinful message of the film. The message of the Hollywood film is very clear... Christians should be quiet about the evils of homosexuality! Preaching the Bible to a loved one may lead to their suicide! This is just more brainwashing propaganda and a blatant attack against Bible-believing, Bible-preaching, God-fearing Christians. Sigourney Weaver evidences this fact plainly by condemning “organized religion” that “comes down on these issues.” No, God is the One Who has come down on these issues! And God has commanded us as believers to refute (Greek: elencho, to expose) all works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11).

In an interview with TV SQUAD, Sigourney Weaver stated the following concerning her role in the pro-homosexual movie, PRAYERS FOR BOBBY...

I think Mary would be the first person to say that she now believes in a God who is the epitome of unconditional love. So I think that she's still a spiritual person, but organized religion, depending on where it comes down on these issues, I think she feels it's not their place to make these distinctions. To make a child feel unworthy and unloved when every child is God's creature, she feels is immoral. I think that, if nothing else, (the film) is a very important starting point for a discussion in the church. As she says in the town meeting (at the end of the film), there are Bobbys everywhere, and people need to be aware that children are listening.

Sigourney Weaver is saying that homosexuals are God's creatures, and no one should make God's creatures feel unworthy or unloved because they are homosexual. According to Miss Weaver's heathen philosophy, Bible-believing Christians who push the issue that homosexuality is a sin are attacking homosexuals (making them feel unworthy and unloved). That is her wicked attitude, and I mean wicked in the worst sense of the term.

They might as well just call Mary Griffith a murderer (which she is not). I read a comment in an internet forum about the movie, where one of the posters said Mary Griffith should burn in Hell forever for her son's suicide. Hatred of people is wrong, whether it be from homosexuals or the religious crowd. Hatred of people is unbiblical. Psalm 97:10 teaches, “Ye that love the Lord, hate evil.” We are to hate evil, but never the sinner. God hates no one, and neither should we. God hates the way of the wicked—a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, feet that are quick to mischief, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, a false witness and they who cause discord amongst brethren (Proverb 6:16-19). It is the wickedness that God hates, and not the person.

But don't mistake God's patience for compromise, passiveness or indifference, because God is angry with the wicked every day (Psalm 7:11; John 3:36). God doesn't want anyone to go to Hell; but rather, for all men to repent toward him through faith in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be forgiven of their sins (2nd Peter 3:9; John 20:31). There is hope for homosexuals, but it is not in the gay rights movement; it is in salvation through Jesus Christ, so that they can come out of homosexuality through the power of Christ. It is a sin to accept homosexuality as a normal and proper lifestyle, because the Word of God condemns homosexuality as a disgusting sin in God's eyes.

The same God who said thou shalt not kill, steal, nor commit adultery said it is an abomination for 2 men to have sex. Leviticus 20:13, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” Romans 1:21-32 teaches that it is a sinful heart of ingratitude and rebellion against God that lead men and women into the homosexual lifestyle. Yet Hollywood celebrities such as Sigourney Weaver boast of having homosexual friends, condemning the Word of God under the label of “organized religion.” It is the Word of God, and not organized religion, that condemns homosexuality!

Homosexuality is a sin according to the Word of God. God will not be mocked. Men may pervert the Scriptures to say what they want to hear (Romans 1:25); but that doesn't change THE TRUTH (John 10:35). There's not a more evil, perverted and homosexual group today than Hollywood, as evidenced by these 67 Hollywood Sodomite films.

Why should God bless America? No one has a “right” to do wrong. God decides what is right or evil. When men decide to do right in their own eyes, wickedness always ensues. The Supreme Court has decided that a child in it's mother's womb is not a human being; but God said He knew Jeremiah before GOD FORMED him in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5). God makes babies; but men destroy them!!!

The Apostle Paul rebuked the church at Corinth for not speaking out against fornication in the church (1st Corinthians 5:1-5). Certainly, homosexuality should also be preached against. The notion that it may cause a person to commit suicide if you preach against homosexuality is evil to the core. Why preach against anything then? Why open the Bible? The smallest Bible in the world is the one people choose to live.

The wicked don't have a problem with a whoremongering, Playboy magazine supporting, Communist, so-called “reverend” like Martin Luther King Jr.; who was used by the criminal elite to launch the immoral rights battle in America, and then they killed him (making him an instant historical legend). Wicked people don't have a problem with so-called “reverends” like Martin Luther King Jr., who denied Jesus' virgin birth, bodily resurrection and deity. In fact, that's the kind of evil influences they want to destroy our nation.

The Civil Rights Movement has been exploited to turn America into a Devil's playground! Civil rights has absolutely nothing to do with IMMORAL rights! Our liberty gives us the right to BE WRONG, not to DO WRONG. Liberty is the freedom to make our own choices. Freedom is the reward for making the right choices. Homosexuality is the wrong choice, and it is costing Americans their freedoms. A Police State is upon us because of our wickedness as a nation. God's hand of blessing has departed, as it did from the house of king Saul. It's just a matter of time. Already, TSA are sticking their hands into passenger's pants. The oppression is just getting started. Our economy is going bankrupt. We have cursed ourselves because of our love for sin which has rendered us weak, indifferent, complacent and dumbed down as a nation.

Americans HOLD THE TRUTH IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. People just don't care anymore about God...

Romans 1:18, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.”

Any child knows that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. The wicked have to INDOCTRINATE children with the homosexual agenda, even allowing GLSEN to teach public school kids how to fist-sex their partner. I am not off-base in my preaching against homosexuals; I am right on cue. I am playing a harmonious C chord; it is the homosexuals who are out of harmony with their Maker. Get right with God!

The wicked are trying to silence the Christians by demonizing them, turning Bible-teaching parents into villains who are filled with hate, portraying sodomites as victims. It's the other way around... Christians are being victimized by homosexuals and a controlled newsmedia owned by pedophiles, adulterers, homosexuals and God-haters. Television executives are a bunch of greedy sex-perverted sickos!

No one has God's permission to commit homosexuality. Our freedom gives us the right to BE wrong; not to DO wrong. Liberty gives us the freedom to make our own decisions; but freedom is a result of making the right decisions. God doesn't make mistakes. No one is born “gay.” If people are created homosexual by God, then why can't they sexually mate as do male and female? Why can't they conceive children? It is evil to blame God for the mentally-ill, spiritually demonic, vile sin of homosexuality. Get right with God America!

Trying to legitimize homosexuality is no different than trying to justify murder, theft or adultery. PRAYERS FOR BOBBY is a slick attempt by homosexuals to make a connection between God's unconditional love and gay rights. It is evil. God's unconditional love sent Jesus Christ to the cross to pay for our sins; but God's love doesn't mean that he looks the other way, or approves of rights for evil doers. Homosexuality is evil. This type of wickedness is nothing new, it happened in Jeremiah 7:8-10, “Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?” Homosexuality is one of the lowest depths of sin to which a human being can sink (Romans 1:21-32). Albeit, God will forgive anybody who comes for forgiveness through faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
 

Prayers for Bobby Film Propagates a False Gospel Message

Upon finding out that her teenage son Bobby is a homosexual, the mother (Sigourney Weaver) states, “I will not risk my family not being together in the next life.” The film clearly implies that homosexuals go to Hell, and if Bobby doesn't get cured he'll go straight to Hell when he dies. This is a false gospel of self-righteousness.

Unsaved people don't understand the Bible, nor can they (1st Corinthians 2:14) because they have not the Holy Spirit of God to guide them into all truth (John 16:13). Unsaved people misinterpret a common passage of Scripture in 1st Corinthians 6:9-10, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” Clearly, homosexuality is a sin that leads to Hell, as with all sins. It needs to be stressed here that the Bible is teaching that ALL SINS lead to Hell, not just the sin of homosexuality.

The Bible teaches that drunkards and thieves won't be allowed into Heaven either. Please read James 2:10, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” Even ONE SIN is enough to keep you out of Heaven and send you to Hell forever. Romans 3:19 teaches that God's Law was given that every mouth may be stopped and all the world become guilty before God. All men are sinners (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23).

At one point in the film, PRAYERS FOR BOBBY, Bobby is reflecting over his problematic life and says, “It's an awful feeling believing that you could be headed straight for the fires of Hell.” Again, the implication is that being a homosexual means that you're going to Hell. The film's message is that to be saved, you cannot be a homosexual. This is not accurate nor Biblical. Please let me explain...

Few people ever read the next Verse in 1st Corinthians 6:11, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” What a blessed Scripture. AND SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU! Notice that YE ARE JUSTIFIED (just-if-I'd never sinned) IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, AND BY THE SPIRIT OF OUR GOD. When you get saved, the precious blood of Jesus washes all your sins away (1st John 1:7; Revelation 1:5; Revelation 7:14).

When you believe on the name of Jesus, God IMPUTES (attributes) the righteousness of Jesus to your record. Jesus took your sins upon Him on the cross, and God the Father places Christ's righteousness upon you. Literally, we are saved by HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. This is exactly what we read in 2nd Corinthians 5:21, “For he [God the Father] hath made him [God the Son] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” If you receive Christ's payment for your sins, then you are saved. It's that simple.

So the question remains, can a person choose to remain a homosexual and be saved? May I say, God will save anybody who admits that they are a dirty, rotten, guilty sinner... even a homosexual. If you think you were born gay, and contend that homosexuality is not a sin, then you cannot be saved. To be saved a person MUST acknowledge their guilt of sin for violating God's Commandments. If you deny your sin, then you cannot be saved. 1st John 1:8,10 says that you are calling God a liar if you say that homosexuality is not a sin. You must come as a guilty sinner to be forgiven.

If you acknowledge that you are a guilty sinner, including your sin of homosexuality, then God will save you by faith in Christ Jesus. Whatever changes God wants to happen in your life, that is His department and He will tend to that. It's not my place, nor anybody else's to police sinners and decide how, where and when those changes occur in other's lives. God will save you JUST AS YOU ARE if you'll admit that you are a guilty sinner. If you believe that Jesus is the Christ Who died, was buried and rose again FOR YOUR SINS, then you are saved if you receive what Christ did as payment for your sins.

1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
 

Prayers for Bobby Film Distorts God's Love

PRAYERS FOR BOBBY ought to be renamed to CHRISTIANS SHUT UP! What a bunch of heathendom from Sigourney Weaver and Hollywood! The writer of the film perverts the meaning of the unconditional love of God. Yes, God's love for all humanity is unconditional, which sent Jesus Christ to the cross to die for all sinners; but unconditional love doesn't mean remaining silent concerning the awfulness of sin.

I am really curious how badly Zondervan is going to butcher the NIV 2011. They are out of money, greedy, and need another version. The fact that the homosexual community is excited about the NIV 2011 being more “gender inclusive” is great cause for concern. God is a masculine God and wrote the Bible in a masculine tense for a reason, because God gave authority to the man in the home, the church, and society.

Yes, God's love is unconditional toward all sinners. God's love sent His only begotten Son into ther world to SAVE SINNERS. Jesus never condemned anyone, because the Bible already condemns everyone. That's why God gave the Law (Romans 3:19); to point us to Jesus Christ for forgiveness and salvation (Galatians 3:24-25). Albeit, Psalm 7:11 warns that God is angry with the wicked every day. John 3:36 warns that all Christ-rejecters are already condemned and under God's wrath. 2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9 is nothing less than terrifying for all Christ-rejecters. We are NOT all God's children!

The Bible foretold in Romans 1:25 that homosexuals would change the truth of God into a lie, and they have done so with modern perversions of the Bible, and with such films as PRAYERS FOR BOBBY. The message that Christians who really love God will embrace gay rights and remain silent about the evils of homosexuality is of the Devil. The film's producers are so subtle. They begin by appealing to Christians to unconditionally love their gay loved ones, and then it suddenly changes into an appeal to support GAY RIGHTS. Satan is a beautiful liar!

Having an unconditional love for loved ones has absolutely NOTHING to do with supporting homosexual rights. It is a malicious attempt by homosexuals to exploit and distort the true meaning of God's love. It was God's unconditional love that sent Jesus to the cross for OUR sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1st John 3:16); but don't think for one moment that God supports homosexuality in any way, fashion or form. God hates homosexuality, which is why Leviticus 20:13 calls it an ABOMINATION in the sight of God! Gay rights has nothing to do with God's love, and only lying homosexuals are saying otherwise (as Romans 1:25 warned they would).
